_The Center That Cannot Hold_ is a series of paper cuts reflecting on motherhood. When I had my first child in 2012, my practice changed drastically. I has less time to print, and as a result, I started making papercuts in my home studio while my child, later my children, slept. The resulting womb like images use centrally focused compositions to symbolize the work of the mother, as I found myself being the center of each child’s world for the first few years of their existence. In these works, the center is pulled in, out, sideways, in gestures that symbolize the joys and challenges of mothering.
